Different types of industrial vacuum pump

Different types of industrial vacuum pump | va vacuum booster – In this article I would like to discuss the importance of the vacuum pump or system which is used in our chemical industries. In this article we would like to learn something new about the vacuum pump or How we create vacuum in our system . What are the factors which affect our process? Firstly I would like to clear the term vacuum . What is the vacuum? Vacuum booster? Vacuum is similar to isotherm conditions where we do work at a lower temperature at constant temperature. Inside the vacuum at low temperatures liquid boils quickly or in other word liquid achieves saturation at low temperatures. Vacuum pumps are mostly used in refinery or fertiliser industries.

Different types of industrial vacuum pump
Different types of vacuum System used in chemical plant

As per my experience mostly used vacuum system in chemical industries are ,

  • Water ejector
  • Steam Jet ejector
  • Water ring vacuum pump
  • Oil ring vacuum pump
  • dry vacuum pump

Water ejector

Water ejector largely used in chemical industry for generation of vacuum. The main disadvantages of water ejectors are

  1. It generate effluent
  2. Max vacuum limit is 40 Torr Abs
  3. Not suitable for big volume system because it take more power .

Steam Jet ejector system

Steam jet ejector is generally used in high vacuum distillation application where vacuum required is below 1 torr Abs. To achieve required vacuum generally water and steam can use in series.

Some time if steam is not available in plant so we can use oil ring vacuum system.

What is vacuum booster ?

Vacuum booster is nothing but mechanical booster which is use to boost the vacuum.

Can we use booster in series ?

yes , we can use booster in series to get required vacuum ?

Dta required to Design a vacuum system or to send a quote request to vendor

  • Total system volume in M3
  • Required vacuum at system
  • Process details like distillation , reaction etc
  • Time required to achieve the vacuum
  • Material Molecular weight
  • Leakage rate
  • Vapour pressure of material
  • Specific vacuum system required
  • available electric voltage
  • Flameproof or NON FLP

Type of the vacuum pump

Vacuum which is used in chemical industries are mainly four type ( By books)

  1. entrapment vacuum pump
  2. Gas transfer vacuum pump
  3. Kinetic vacuum pump
  4. Positive displacement vacuum pump

entrapment vacuum pump

Pump generally which captures or trapped gas molecules on their surface is known as entrapment vacuum pump.they provide high vacuum and no need for extra energy . The disadvantage of the entrapment vacuum pump is that it is not applicable for high flow; they operate at a low flow rate . They are using chemical reactions and have no moving parts therefore creating liquid free vacuum.and in this entrapment vacuum pump cavitation is insignificant.Gas transfer vacuum pump- the transfer of fluids by momentum transfer or exchange of momentum to each other . In the gas vacuum pump the first molecules come and leave first.
In simple words we can say fluid follows the path line after discharge .

Kinetic vacuum pump-

In the kinetic vacuum pump fluid flows at a high flow rate and the blade is operated at high pressure .By using the kinetic vacuum pump we can achieve a high compression ratio at low
pressure by creating the vacuum.

positive displacement vacuum pump

It is the different type of pump which is discussed above. So we
would like to discuss it separately . It is widely used in the chemical industries and the
application of the centrifugal vacuum in many industries and it is used to discharge liquid as
well as gas . It is the based on the reciprocating action , on the suction point the fluid comes inside the
pump and by the reciprocating goes outside at discharge point and this process continues.the purpose of the centrifugal pump is to increase pressure . It is used in the field of irrigation.it is in the different action but the working principle of the pumps are same.

Centrifugal vacuum pump

It is used to achieve maximum head. Whenever the head is required very high then a displacement vacuum pump is used. Chance of the formation of cavity in the position
displacement vacuum pump is minimal.

Liquid ring vacuum pump

The efficiency of the vacuum pump is high and the working principle of the liquid ring pump

is the same as the rotary pump which is the type of centrifugal pump. Liquid ring vacuum
pumps are powered by the motor which the application of the induction .the friction factor
between the blade and chamber of the liquid ring vacuum pump is slightly minimum.

Dry screw vacuum pumps

Dry screw vacuum pump use when we have very high vacuum requirement. If there is water and full vacuum required we can use this types of vacuum system.

Oil vacuum pumps

Oil vacuum pump use when we required high vacuum and there is no water in distillation or in process.

Advantage of the vacuum pump

The main advantage of the vacuum pump is that it can transport the sludge bio-solid easily .

We can save time because the blockage which is formed by the sludge are easily removed

Disadvantages of the vacuum pump-
In the vacuum pump the problem can be faced by fluid injury. Due to sealant some time the

cavitation can be formed bcz the the vacuum head is less by the helping head.
