Tata Power’s success in securing this venture was confirmed with the issuance of a letter of award, marking a pivotal moment as it is the company’s inaugural triumph in the FDRE domain. The project aims to bolster the efforts of distribution companies (discoms) by supplying clean electricity during peak hours, thereby enhancing stability in the national grid, Tata Power Secures Contract for 200MW Renewable Project.

Through the FDRE initiative, discoms stand to benefit from a round-the-clock power supply, enabling them to meet renewable purchase and energy storage obligations efficiently. The contract, secured through a competitive bidding process and a subsequent reverse e-auction, also presents an option for additional capacity beyond the initially slated 200MW.

Tata Power has committed to commissioning the project within a swift 24-month timeframe from the signing of the power purchase agreement. This ambitious timeline reflects the company’s dedication to expeditiously contributing to India’s renewable energy goals.

Notably, the environmentally conscious project is expected to offset a substantial 900,000 tons of CO₂ emissions annually, further solidifying Tata Power’s commitment to sustainable energy practices.

As a part of Tata Power’s expansive portfolio, which now stands at an impressive 8.3GW, the company boasts 4.1GW of projects in various stages of development. The operational capacity comprises 3.2GW of solar projects and 1.01GW of wind projects, reinforcing Tata Power’s diversified and resilient approach to renewable energy, SolarPV.

In an additional strategic move, Tata Power inked a memorandum of understanding with the State Government of Maharashtra in August 2023. The agreement paves the way for the development of two pumped hydro storage projects with a combined capacity of 2.8GW. These projects, located in Shirawta, Pune (1.8GW), and Bhivpuri, Raigad (1GW), signify Tata Power’s commitment to pioneering energy storage solutions.
