Unit Operations :- It is a big and very important topics for chemical engineers. Being a engineer you have to know about unit operation of chemical engineering.Most of the chemical engineers main job profile related with unit operation.In a chemical engineer who doing job as process engineer , the main dusty or responsibility is study the unit operations.
what is unit operation ?
Unit operation is basic and main step of a process.In simple word it is a operation in which physical changes are involved.
For chemical engineers , we can classify unit operations as unit operations of mixing , separation and reactions.
We will study each ,one by one.
Unit operations of Mixing in industry
Addition of toluene in a reactor containing water is a example of unit operations . If our process requirements is remove the water from phenol ,then we need to add toluene in mixture of phenol+water. Because phenol water mixture form azeotropes ,which is can not separate by simple distillation.
Unit operations of separations in industry
Separation of water layer and organic layer is most common example of unit operation .We can called it is common example of unit operation which is used largely in chemical industry.

There are so many examples like, Alkylation ,oxidation ,chlorination ,bromination ,iodination ,hydrogenation,reduction reactions .

Alkylation- It is nothing but addition of alkylic group in a compound .
Bromination- addition of bromine to a compound is nothing but bromination.
