air Cooled heat exchanger

In this article I would like to discuss the air cooled heat exchanger. It is a special types of heat exchanger and the design of the air cooled heat exchanger is complicated. In this article we easily understand all facts related to the ACHE. At the initial stage we need to know what the ACHE is.

air Cooled heat exchanger

What is the air cooled heat exchanger ???

ACHE is the heat rejection equipment where the excess process heat is rejected to the atmosphere

It is a special type of heat exchanger that is professionally manufactured with high quality. Short name of is (ACHE) . ACHE is the heat rejection equipment where the excess process heat is rejected to the atmosphere. It works on the principle of convection and conduction to dissipate heat from process fluid to air.it is wide, usually chemical industries. Process fluid passes through the tubes and air stream is passed over the tubes to carry away the heat air stream created by the fans mounted on the unit.by suitable selecting the tube material ACHE can effectively cool or condense process  water chemicals or any other heat transfer fluid.

In the air cooled heat exchanger the tubes

Which carry the process fluid are of carbon steel at stainless steel with aluminium high fans who maximize the heat transfer.

It is the most efficient fin to tube heat transfer. Separates process side from any contamination due to closed loop system.

Air cooled heat exchangers are one of the heat exchanger types frequently used in process power steel and several other industries where a process system generates heat that must be  removed for which there is no local use. The main function of the ACHE is the direct cooling of various process mediums by atmospheric air.

Advantages of air cooled heat exchanger

The main advantages of (ACHE)  is its very low maintenance and operating cost.

As compared to cooling towers and shell and tube heat exchangers ,air coolers are a green solution . They do not require an auxiliary water supply because of the lost water due to evaporation.

In the air cooled heat exchanger there is no need for utility because water is available as a cooling medium .

Air cooled heat exchanger usually use when outlet temperature more 20degreeF

Basically maximum expected Ambient air temperature. They never use when the temperature difference between the fluid and air is low. It is an expensive cooling tower and water cooled heat exchanger.

CONSTRUCTION OF (ACHE)

It consists of a finned tube bundle with a rectangular box header on both sides of the tube .

Cooling air is provided by one or more offans.

Air below the upward through the horizontal tube bundle.

Air is pulled  through the tube bundle and fan can be either forced or induced draft. The space between fans and tube bundle is enclosed by a plenum chamber that directs the air . The whole assembly is usually mounted on a pipe rack.

One or more bundles of the heat transfer surface.

A fan blower that moves the air and power transmission for running the fan or blower

The air cooled heat exchanger has one supporting structure and one header  , fan maintenance platform.

types of fin

What type of fins used in air cooled heat exchanger

  1. Embedded
  2. Extruded
  3. Footed
  4. Externally bonded
  5. Elliptical

Fin material of construction

Aluminium

Corbin steel

Corbin steel finned tubes can be hot-dip galvanised to prevent corrosion and provide a metallic bond between fin and bare tube.

Copper

Now I would like to conclude that air cooled heat exchanger is widely used In Industries and also easy to construct and very effective to cooling towers .So most of the time the air cooled heat exchanger is very useful.

I hope you can learn something new in this article interesting fact related to air cooled heat exchanger
