difference between tubes and pipes:- Through this article I would like to tell a clear difference between pipes and the industrial aspects and theoretical aspects. STANDARD DEFINITION OF PIPE AND TUBE
Pipe
Pipe:- Pipe is a tabular section or hollow cylinder which is used to convey substance which can flow. It can also be used in structural applications . Pipe is generally specified by nominal diameter with a constant outside diameter.
Tube :-
A tube is a long hollow cylinder use to protect electrical or optical cable and wire tubes are specified by actual inside diameter ,outside diameter or wall thickness . There are three classes of manufactured tubing.
- seamless
- As welded
- Drawn over the mandrel.
Basic difference between tube and pipe
The pipe is always a round tube that can be square, rectangular , round or circular.
Pipe external body is always rigid; it can not be shaped without specific equipment.
Tube can be shaped by some effort .
Tube are cold rolled and hot rolled pipes are only hot rolled .
Pipe accommodates larger applications and tubing is. Always use a smaller diameter.
Wall thickness of tubes and pipes is an important factor to tell the difference. The thickness of the tube is often specified for gauge for thinner thickness and for thicker tubing fraction of inches or millimeters.
Wall thickness differs as pipe schedules.
Most common schedule are SCH20 WITH CH 40 AND Ch80
Schedule 40 is most common and 80extra having.
Pipes are usually used for transportation and distribution. Tolerance of tubes is more compared to tubes. Tolerance differs to diameter , wall thickness, straightness and roundness.
Tubes required much more process , test and inspection than pipe .
Yields of tubes are comparatively lower than pipes. Manufacturing tubes require more labour energy and material while the process of pipes is easy.
Advantages of tube :-
Tubing provides a solution to together regulations and increasing stresses on fluid systems . Tubing is most important to carry fluid in industrial application.
Tube is easier to install and maintain, costs less and is better than piping. Tube Wells can be dug near the agriculture field according to necessity.
Tube wells can irrigate the larger area.
Advantages of pipe:-
It is more durable compare to tube
It have better resistance to fight corrosion
It is so malleable to tubing material
It is recyclable better than tube
It is cost – efficient.
Pipelines have relieved the increasing pressure on the existing surface transport system.
It needs very little maintenance.
It involves very low energy consumption.
Ideally suited to transport the liquid and gases .
Difficult to make security arrangements for pipelines
Disadvantage of tube :-
It leads to depletion of the groundwater
Tube Wells are only possible in areas where the groundwater level is not too low, power is needed to drain.
Tube Wells installation is not possible in the area or land having brackish water.
Disadvantage of pipe:-
It is not flexible , it can be used only for fixed points.
Its capacity can not be increased once it is laid .
It is difficult to make security arrangements or pipelines.
Pipeline cannot be easily repaired and detection of leakage is also difficult.
Conclusion
In the end of this article I can how the specific role of tubes and pipes. They are equally important in different chemical industries and they are the basic thing which gives the stability of a chemical plant when a plant is under commissioning. So in the case of a tube we consider the inside diameter but in the case of pipes we consider the outside diameter.
